Another Stereotype of the Month entry:

Ramirez's Indian mascot cartoon missed the mark badly for several reasons:

• Trojans are dead and gone; Indians aren't.
• Few if any Indians are seeking to become school mascots.
• The chief on a horse is a Native stereotype—exactly the problem mascots perpetuate.

For Ramirez to imply we should take Indians' wishes into account is a pathetic joke. Not taking their wishes into account is the whole issue. If we did as he suggested, we wouldn't have conflicts over mascots—or mascots, period.

As usual, Ramirez has depicted a bald-faced lie and passed it off as the truth.
