Stereotype of the Month Entry
(11/26/01)

Another Stereotype of the Month entry:

Crees signed a Agreement in Principle that opens up the area to resource exploitation. Quebec had cut off funding to Memorandum of Understanding moneys to starve them into submission. Guy Cheverette, a top minister for the Quebec government, told reporters "We didn't force them. We didn't scalp anybody." The James Bay Crees have never scalped anyone and this is actually subtle racism on their part. Also as part of the deal Cree public relations are not allowed to use the words "racist," "ethnocide" or "genocide" in refering to Quebec. Not bad, they can be racist and we are stopped from saying that they are.
