The home page of the Orthodox Wannabe--er, Wablenica--League...as it was in the early 2000s...minus the bad links. To show a typical example of European--in this case, Russian--"hobbyists" or "Indianists."
Wable'nica (Lakhota "orphan") - is a group of Orthodox Christians - "Indianists", originally Moscow "Assiniboines".
(We use the term "Indianists" in Russia because we do not "wanna-be" anybody. We are what we are. Some of us merely love Native people and study their language, culture, or history. Some feel the Native heart inside, and do not need any outer confirmation.)
In 1997 ã. the leader of Moscow Assiniboines Is^ta S^ic^a (Yuri Kotenko) granted us an autonomy with the name "Orphans". This was a name of subbands splitting form a maternal Sioux bands..
It is hard to say why are we, Whites born in Russia, consider ourselves Indians. Yet it is so, and every one of us feels that the Indian culture is as familiar to him as native Russian one. We dream of living in commune, in the tepees at the countryside, to wear beaded fringed clothes, ride horses,- in general, to follow the native lifestyle.
But besides, every Wablenica experienced a meeting with Christ, meeting with the Truth. We've got convinced that the Truth is one, and the fullness of Truth is in Orthodoxy. To follow it is the most important for us.
At some time we all faced a question: does our internal Indian contradicts Orthodoxy. Many counselled with their priests and surprisingly received the blessing for "Indianism". Later we ourselves comprehended that the most valuable in Indians (as in any other nation) is comprised by Christianity. For there is one Creator of nations and his childrens (whether separate men or peoples) do not lose their individuality when they apply to Him. No, they are just more freely realizing this individuality in virtue, freeing from evil and sin.
Yet the way to God is the way to sanctity not the sanctity itself. And following this way we encounter numerous problems and questions. In order to solve them for ourselves, to help others to handle these problems, to share our views and to hear what our friends think about it, - just to tell you about us - we created this site.
