Another response to Was Native Defeat Inevitable?:
>> I found your site by accident...I am sorry I did. <<
I'm sorry you're sorry.
>> I know I can say nothing to change what this org. believes.... but..get a grip. <<
I have a fine grip already, thanks.
>> I see your references to history ..I say keep looking. <<
Keep looking for what? The information on my site is as accurate and detailed as possible. Give me an example of something you think is missing.
>> You are a conquered people. <<
I'm a Caucasian—a WASP—not an Indian. My ancestor William Palmer came to Connecticut in 1536.
>> Had Americans wanted to wipe you all out we very well have the means and have always had them. <<
Actually, there were several points at which the Indians could've halted the white man's progress. See Was Native Defeat Inevitable? for details.
>> This was never the intent. <<
Sure it was. I've posted long lists of quotes from US presidents and other historical figures at Savage Indians and Uncivilized Indians. The quotes make it clear that the Americans' goal was to destroy Native peoples and cultures—to make them vanish.
>> Be proud... you have a rich history and heritage, but your history includes being concuered..that is a fact. <<
Actually, many tribes made treaties with the US before they were conquered. Then Americans broke the treaties, cheated them out of their land, and so forth.
Who suffered worse than Indians?
>> many conquered peoples faired much worse...look at WORLD HISTORY. <<
I've looked at it. Which body of people has fared worse than having some 90% of its population wiped out by a foreign invasion and its consequences? If this isn't the worse case of genocide in history, what is?
What's your point here? That people should be happy they were conquered? Give me any example in history of people who felt that way.
Germany had a much richer culture of art, music, literature, science, and technology than the US in the 1920s and 1930s. Should we have let the Nazis conquer us and advance our culture to their level? Why not? If you expect Indians to be happy to be conquered, why wouldn't you expect Americans to be happy also?
>> The people who conquered you did not just spring up from the ground in 1600 we have a history too but ours shows a societal and developmental grouth that yours does not. <<
If you consider being ruled by absolute monarchs and popes a positive development, I guess you're right. Or weren't you aware that most Indian societies were democratic compared to their European counterparts in 1492?
See Indians Gave Us Enlightenment for someone who probably would agree with you. You may learn something from my response.
>> It was only a matter of time before the guys with boats (transatlantic), guns, citys and such would clash with those in huts, bows, spears. <<
Indians quickly adopted horses, guns, and other beneficial imports, which is why they remained free for some 400 years after 1492. But yes, the Old World did have some lucky advantages over the New World. These advantages were accidents of biology and geography, not superior cultural choices. See Jared Diamond's "Guns, Germs, and Steel" (summarized at The Myth of Western Superiority) for more on the subject.
>> The indian peoples killed each other long before we got here. <<
Europeans fought more wars and were more vicious in warfare by all accounts. You've been watching too many John Wayne movies if you think Indians were violent compared to Europeans.
Indians were killers too?
>> Once given the knowlege...guns and building tools...Indians were killing with the rest of us... <<
To defend themselves, yes. Most people would say killing in self-defense is a moral right. Too bad the Europeans didn't have that excuse to justify their deadly behavior.
>> so get your head out of the sand recognize the reality of mankind and be proud of your heritage. <<
I recognize the reality. America is one of the most violent countries in the world, as shown by international crime statistics. They killed the Indians and now they're killing each other at phenomenal rates.
See America the Warrior Society for more.
>> Don't sully the image of the native people with your whinning. <<
You're the only one who's whining, as far as I can tell. I'm simply addressing the whining of you and others with the facts.
