A Well Regulated Militia...
(7/22/02)

Another response to A Well Regulated Militia...—from "Thomas Magnum":

Thomas,

Loved your TV show, Magnum, P.I.

>> Hopefully you'll read this [an attached document] with an open mind. It is a true scholarly work, properly reasearched and cited <<

And my 2nd Amendment page isn't? I would've thought citing 26 cases that support the right to regulate arms would be enough for most people.

I properly researched my pages on the 2nd Amendment, with citations from the Federalist Papers and elsewhere. I refuted a professor's arguments pretty easily at A Well Regulated Militia.... I'm a professional writer, researcher, and librarian with two master's degrees, so "scholarly" doesn't impress me.

Exploring gun control is only a tiny fraction of what I do, so I can't spend much time on the issue. If you think you've found a flaw in my arguments, tell me what it is and we'll discuss it. If you're waiting for me to read the umpteenth explanation of how "militia" means all people and the Founding Fathers loved guns, you may have a long wait.

>> If you're ever in Idaho, send me an e-mail and I'd love to take you shooting (NOT to be shot, Ha, Ha—but to introduce you to the world of firearms <<

My dad took us shooting when I was a kid, so I've handled pistols and rifles before. We shot at cans and other targets, of course, not cute li'l animals.

>> God bless. <<

God Bless Secular America

Rob

If a well-regulated militia be the most natural defense of a free country, it ought certainly to be under the regulation and at the disposal of that body which is constituted the guardian of the national security.

Alexander Hamilton, the leading constitutional proponent, Federalist No. 29
